The Hughes Brothers: A Hockey Dynasty in the Making
Three Brothers, One Goal
Luke Hughes has become the third brother in his hockey-playing Jewish family to be drafted into the NHL. The 18-year-old defenseman was selected fourth overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He joins his older brothers Jack and Quinn, who were both first-round picks in 2019 and 2018, respectively.
A Night to Remember
The Hughes family had quite a night on the ice on Tuesday. Jack and Luke faced off against sibling Quinn as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. It was the first time that three brothers had played against each other in an NHL game since 2003.
A Historic Family
No American family has ever had three players taken in the first round of the NHL draft. The Hughes brothers are now poised to make history. On Tuesday, they will become the ninth family to have at least three brothers play in the same NHL game.
